    One of Gdansk's MUST SEEs

    This museum was created several years ago, to finally display the amber exhibition. Also to educate people, who usually do not know much about amber.
    Called the Golden Teardrop of the Baltic, it is a 40 million years old fossilized resin of coniferous trees. Of course this is a simplification of a huge topic. But gives and idea of what to await. Amber has c.a. 240 colors and shades, and is used not only for jewelry but also for … healing. Here on the south coast of the Baltic Sea it is used also as incense,
    But the Amber Museum is not only this. It is also a very interesting museum of … penology in Gdansk.
    First the building was erected to be a gateway to Gdansk – and so it was until the 17th century. Then it was turned into w prison and a torture house. And as such it stayed for a long time.
    When you go there be sure not only to look at splendid amber art, but also watch closely the walls, and doors. You will find many inscriptions of former prisoners…
    The Museum is open daily except Mondays (during autumn and winter)
    Tuesday - from 10:00 am till 3 pm - it is a day of free admission (entrance every half and hour)
    From Wednesday till Saturday - open from 10 am till 4 pm
    Sunday - 11 am till 4 pm
    Tickects = 10,- PLN per person, there are also tickets for group and families. Can be found on their internet site.
