Pyongyang Getting there & around

Getting around

The usual restrictions exist with Pyongyang’s network of buses, trams and metro trains: in theory you are free to use them all, providing your guides are with you. As a rule, they seem very reluctant to show you anything other than the two approved metro stations. Indeed, given that you will have a car or coach, they may think you mad to want to brave Pyongyang’s overcrowded mass-transit network. However, if they agree, the flat fare throughout the city is KPW5.

Both buses and trams have a substantial network throughout the city, but are overcrowded and slow. The metro is fast and convenient, but the network is limited.

Taxis are available outside all hotels for you to travel in with your guide, should the need arise. Reception can also book taxis for you if there are none outside the hotel.
