Lonely Planet review for Lao National Museum
With a limited collection of historical and revolutionary exhibits, the Lao National Museum will never be confused with the Louvre. But it does serve to sum up the country’s ongoing struggle to come to grips with its own identity, so it’s worth a look.

Different generations of displays show the changing country
janetvientiane recommends this,
There are some very fine artefacts here which are well worth a look, despite the sometimes sparse information. The development of the museum displays, does to a certain extent chart the changing attitudes within the political establishment. The older displays about colonial and wartime eras are artefacts in themselves. Recent archaeological finds in Vientiane and other areas have added to the richness of the cultural section.
Staff are working hard to present more interactive and attractive displays, and the more visitors who go into this historic building, the more they can demonstrate the interest and worth in telling the story of the Lao people and nation in this very appropriate setting. Well worth a visit.
