    Endless miles of brilliant-green paddy fields stretch out from the simple adobe farmhouse at Basudha Farm, less than an hours’ drive from Bishnupur. Basudha was founded by ecologist Dr Debal Deb, who operates a seed bank of indigenous rice strains. At Basudha he grows and experiments with rices, using organic methods, and teaches these methods to other farmers as an alternative to using genetically modified rice varieties. Visitors to the farm are assumed to be interested in the work and the local culture; members of WWOOF (Willing Workers on Organic Farms) get free board in exchange for farm work.
