Health & safety
Dangers & annoyances
Hampi is a safe place, generally free of any aggression. That said, don’t wander around the ruins after dark or alone, as muggings and violent attacks are not unknown.
Keep your wits about you with the autorickshaw drivers; some will overcharge outrageously for short trips around the village (you shouldn’t have to pay more than Rs 10 for a ride from bus station to any of the lodges) and take commission from some of the lodge owners they recommend.
