Lonely Planet review for Speakers’ Corner

Recline on a patch of lawn in front of the Art Gallery of NSW and listen to religious zealots, nutters, political extremists, homophobes, hippies and academics express their earnest opinions. Some of them have something interesting to say; most are just plain mad. Either way, it makes for an interesting afternoon. BYO soapbox.

TONY ROBINSON Explores Soapbox Speaking at the Sydney Domain

    thesource recommends this,

I’m walking a brisk pace at Roo-Speed up the Sydney Domain Speakers’ Corner path towards ‘Picasso’s Path’ at the Art Gallery NSW when suddenly in hindsight of two Domain Griffins, a voice calls out,

“Freedom of Speech is an essential ingredient of a free country!”

My attention zeros in on a Soapbox Orator - Who is the English Actor and Broadcaster TONY ROBINSON (foremost fame as ‘Baldrick’ in the ‘Blackadder’ TV series: 1983-1989/1999).

Mr Robinson is filming a program on Freedom of Speech in Australian for his ‘Tony Robinson Explores Australia’ TV series and set for broadcast on the History Channel in early spring 2012.

I join the production film shoot playing the [real life] part as a standing audience member to Four-plus-One Top Orators at the Sydney Domain Speakers' Corner.

The Four Soapbox Orators (and Heckler) are:

“You are always entitled to my opinions!” Blazons Mr BASHFULL. Full compliments to Mr Bashfull on his soapbox speakers web page.

Mr STEVE MAXWELL is a Veteran Sydney Domain Speaker since 1984 and loves speaking on Australian History. Author of ‘Soapbox Oratory: Written and Illustrated History of Soapbox Oratory’ by Stephen Maxwell. Full credit to Steve for revamping the Sydney Domain Speakers’ Corner during a dull period in Soapbox Oratory throughout the 1990s decade.

Ms ANN DUFFY is 92-years young and honoured Mr Robinson and the Speakers’ Corner with a first class oratory as if she first stood upon the soapbox and spoke back in the 1960s decade. An expert Unionist and Socialist, Ms Duffy vitalized the male dominated Speakers’ Corner with her Boudica energy. See a photo of Ms Duffy Speaking at the Sydney Domain in 1965 now immortalized on the Speakers’ Corner Dedication Chair (20 March 2011).

Mr HELMUT CERNCIC is a Veteran Sydney Domain Speaker since 1972 and the ‘academic’ among the religious zealots, political extremists, homophobes, hippies, nutters and plain mad Soapbox Orators listed in the Lonely Planet Review For Speakers’ Corner web page. Treasuring a background in Philosophy, Cosmology, Religion and Science, Helmut is set to whacko the 2012 New Year Sydney Domain with a diddle-oh (discourse) in Mayan Philosophy and Quantum Field Physics: the hunt for that goddamn ‘Godparticle’ and Dark Matter.

Appreciation to JOE (JOVO) for his Slippery Dip Lip (cheeky Heckling) to Mr Robinson during his Soapbox Oratory. Joe is a Sydney Domain Soapbox Veteran and a regular Sunday afternoon Speaker on Life Style Nutrition and Prince Charles.

Now the Four-plus-ONE Top Sydney Domain Speakers’ Corner Orator steps up to address the assembled Domain patrons. He is an Actor, Comedian, Author, Broadcaster and a Political Campaigner. He is TONY ROBINSON, and he speaks about…?

You will have to watch his 2012 ‘Ned Kelly’ Telly (Television Series), ‘‘Tony Robinson Explores Australia’.

Access 'Rolf Bavalsky' on facebook to view photos of Tony Robinson with the Soapbox Orators at the Sydney Domain Speakers’ Corner.

Cheers from Steak & Kidney Sydney,
