Lonely Planet review for Park Güell
North of Gràcia, Park Güell is where Gaudí turned his hand to landscape gardening and the artificial almost seems more natural than the natural.
Park Güell originated in 1900 when Count Eusebi Güell bought a hillside property (then outside Barcelona) and hired Gaudí to create a miniature garden city of houses for the wealthy. The project was abandoned in 1914, but not before Gaudí had created 3km of roads and walks, steps and a plaza in his inimitable manner, plus the two Hansel-and-Gretel-style gatehouses on Carrer d’Olot.
Try coming to the park early on a weekday. On summer weekends it can be unpleasantly packed. Bus 24 drops you at an entrance near the top of the park.

Interesting place.
gsuichtravel recommends this,
I would recommend people visiting Barcelona to see the Park. It takes one away from the hub-bub of Barcelona. I would also recommend people to walk to the top to see the amazing view of Barcelona, you can see the port along with everything else. Quite amazing. I would most likely return to Barcelona for the Park, it was one of my favorite places, and within the shortest period of time.

Amazing little hike. Do it on a dry day for the best view.

If you can handle pushing the kid up all the hills then you will be okay, otherwise it might be a bit of a walk for them.
Good for: Active people, adventure activities, young adults, Twenty Somethings

One of the most fascinating urban parks in the world
lukamuller recommends this,
It is definitely one of Barcelona's must-see attraction. It is one of the most fascinating urban parks in the world. Thanks to Gaudi it is so unique that you will not find anything like that anywhere else. You will fall in love with the park.
Make sure that you use the rest room close to the entrance. It is a bit hard to find one up in the park.

Imagine this as your local park!!

I am so envious of Barcelona residents, being able to call this magical place their local park. In a city full of unmissable attractions and beauty everywhere you look, Park Güell is an absolute highlight. The curvy mosaic bench is exquisite, and looks out on a sensational view of the city (and ocean beyond). The landscaping and plantlife are lovely, and accentuate the organic nature of Gaudi's work. Lots of pigeons nesting, quiet walking trails etc too.
Obviously, there are heaps of tourists, and getting near that famous tiled dragon/lizard at the front of the Sala Hipóstil can be difficult - but who can blame them/us for descending on the park in droves - it's just so amazing and unique and inspiring! (I saw some anti-tourist graffiti on the front wall of a house in a nearby street, which was kinda depressing... surely they should be more annoyed with "America's Next Top Model" for staging a fricken catwalk parade there in the last series?)
Truly a mind-blowing experience, and enduring proof of the power of the human imagination!
