Welcome to Gellért Hill & Tabán
Standing atop Gellért Hill and proclaiming freedom throughout the city is the lovely Liberty Monument, Budapest’s most visible statue. She looks down on the Tabán, a leafy neighbourhood dating to the 17th century. Today the greater area is home to the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) and its students, which can only mean cheap eateries and a decent nightlife. The main thoroughfare, Bartók Béla út, is fast laying claim to being the 'happening' part of south Buda – around here you'll find trendy cafes, a wine bar and even a vegan eatery.
