Lonely Planet review for Pike Place Market
The fishy-smelling, tourist-thronged heart of downtown Seattle is Pike Place Market. It's good theater, though claustrophobically crowded. The Main and North Arcades are the most popular areas, with bellowing fishmongers, arts and crafts, and precarious stacks of gemlike fruits and vegetables.
Tiny shops of all descriptions fill the lower levels of the market. It is open all week, though individual shop/stall hours do vary. Try a weekday morning if you don't like crowds.

A classic market

Even if you're not shopping for any food, it's worth a visit to Pike Place. The old neon signs are atmospheric, and the commercial theatre of the yelling fishmongers is a treat, as are the views of the harbor.

Pike Place Market is the perfect place for hungry explorers

I used to work around the corner from Pike Place Market, and it is my favorite place in the city. You can try cherries just picked off the tree, chocolate spaghetti, and a hundred types of tea.

super eclectic fun

i like markets, but this is an especially good one. there's so much stuff, it encourages consumption in a big way. the best bits are the fresh seafood stalls - i've never seen so much whole, fresh, delicious salmon. the fresh produce looked great, and the cheese at Beecher's (where you can watch them making fresh fromage) is good; we plan to pack a picnic to take to Mount Rainier tomorrow.
