Lonely Planet review for Hollywood Forever Cemetery

Rock ’n’ roll faithful flock to the monument of guitar-playing Johnny Ramone at this Paramount-adjacent boneyard. Other residents include Hattie McDaniel, Rudolph Valentino and Cecil B DeMille. From Bugsy Siegel’s mausoleum, catch the perfectly framed view of the Hollywood sign – proving Hollywood, at least here, really is forever. Watch outdoor movie screenings in the summer (www.cinespia.org).

    The ultimate Hollywood movie experience!

    clm01 recommends this,

Went to one of the summer movie screenings. Watched Dr Strangelove projected onto the side of the mausoleum.

Bring a blanket, a picnic and enjoy! You are allowed low deck chairs but not the full height ones as you would block the view.

This is a really fun and different thing to do! You can see the Hollywood sign through the palm trees. This is a must for any lover of old school Hollywood romaticisim.

The summer screenings at the cemetery have recently been included in the movie Valentine's Day and TV show 90210.

I only found out about this through a friend who lives there and thought it was so much fun.

A word of warning - it is really popular and gets really busy - everyone in LA drives so there was a long traffic jam to get to the cemetery. You can park inside but it also takes a while to get away afterwards. So relax and soak up the atmosphere!
