One of Turkey's World Heritage sites, the Göreme Open-Air Museum is an essential stop on any Cappadocian itinerary. A cluster of rock-cut Byzantine churches, chapels and monasteries 1km uphill from the centre of the village, it deserves at least a two-hour visit.

    Sem dúvida indispensável pela paisagem e por tudo. Embora o mundo seja inesgotável, cheio de lugares apelativos, apetece voltar. No entanto as autoridades turcas devem ter atenção à erosão provocada pelas visitas turísticas maciças que estão a desgastar de modo eventualmente irremediável este magífico lugar que faz parte do património mundial e está classificado pela Unesco....

    i loved Goreme, and the open-air museum gave a fantastic insight into the history of the region. you can see the fairy chimneys everywhere for nothing, but seeing how people lived and worshipped in this extraordinary landscape is worth every penny.
