Heading south? Why not stop and enjoy the charms of Phetchaburi Province on your way down? Its ancient, slow-paced capital Phetchaburi (otherwise known as Phetburi) makes a interesting stopover, with myriad wats and traditional teak houses; while Thailand's largest national park, Kaeng Krachan, is also well worth a visit. Besides boasting caves and mountains to explore, a huge lake, and excellent trekking and bird-watching opportunities, the park happens to be one of the few places left where you can see elephants roaming wild.
