Lonely Planet review for Taipei 101
Towering above the city like the gigantic bamboo stalk it was designed to resemble, Taipei 101 is impossible to miss. At 508m, Taipei International Financial Centre 101, as it's officially named, is the world's tallest building (Dubai eat your heart out, for now at least!). In addition to holding the world record for height, Taipei 101 also holds the record for having the world's fastest elevator.
The pressure-controlled lift travels at 1010 meters per minute and takes 40 seconds to get from ground level to the 89th floor observation deck.

A must for any first time trip to Taipei
plushkanyc recommends this,
On a nice day, you can see all of Taipei and surrounding areas. Great for understanding how the city is laid out and just having the experience of being up so high. I recommend the 91st floor outdoor observatory if it is open. The elevator ride is interesting - very fast so your ears will pop, but there is a kind of roof light show that distracts you from the sensation.

needless to say, it's Taiwan's icon

You might wanna go up there, see the damper ball, and just wandering around the 2nd tallest building in the world (after the Burj Khalifa). There's a mini-museum and jewelry store (with discounts if you're on your lucky day) on top of the tower ;)
