Form/Design Center
Located in the wonderful courtyarded 16th-century Hedmanska Gården, featuring architecture, design and art displays. The surrounding cobbled streets are restored parts of the late-medieval town; the half-timbered houses are now occupied by galleries and boutiques selling some superb arts and crafts.

Humanitetens Hus
The Red Cross was just setting up Humanitetens Hus at the time of writing. There's an emphasis on school visits, but it's worth popping in to learn more from these committed folk about their humanitarian work around the world; or to have a cup of coffee at the Fair Trade café.

Koggmuseet
Koggmuseet is a small museum about cogs (14th-century trading vessels), with two beautiful reconstructed medieval ships moored outside: boat trips (at noon and ) are included in the admission.

The old Kommendanthuset arsenal is just opposite the castle: it opens for temporary art exhibitions.

Malmö Konsthall, south of the city centre, has vast white display halls where Swedish and foreign artists show off their work.

Various museums in and around Malmöhus Slott make up the Malmö Museer. There are café-restaurants inside all the museums.

Malmöhus Slott
Malmö's castle has an intriguing history, although not much remains of the older citadels built on the site: today, with its red-brick, Functionalist buildings (dating from 1937), it looks more like a factory! Some of the Malmö Museer are based inside the castle.

Rådhuset was originally built in 1546, but has been altered since then.

'Malmö's Copacabana' is stretching it, but Ribersborg is a lovely long sandy beach backed by parkland, about 2km west of the town centre.

The extraordinary Rooseum, once the turbine hall of a power station, holds contemporary art exhibitions.

Sankt Petri Kyrka
This red-brick Gothic beast is the oldest church in the city, built in the early 14th century. The medieval frescoes were whitewashed over by Protestant zealots in 1555, but the original wall-paintings in the Krämarekapellet (inside at the rear of Sankt Petri Kyrka) have been successfully restored. There's also a magnificent altarpiece dating from 1611 and a votive ship in the south aisle, dedicated to all who died at sea in WWII. Much of the church has been rebuilt and the 96m tower was constructed in 1890.

St Gertrud Quarter is just off Östergatan and consists of 19 buildings from the 16th to 19th centuries.

Teknikens och Sjöfartens Hus
The excellent Teknikens och Sjöfartens Hus is a short way to the west. It's a technology and maritime museum, with aircraft, vehicles, a horse-drawn tram, steam engines, and the amazing 'U3' walk-in submarine, just outside the main building. The submarine was launched in Karlskrona in 1943 and decommissioned in 1967. Upstairs is a superb hands-on experiment room for kids, which will keep them (and you!) enthralled for ages.

Thottska Huset
Across the road from St Gertrud Quarter, Thottska Huset is the oldest half-timbered house in Malmö (1558). It's been turned into a restaurant, so you can take a look inside.

Turning Torso
In the distant northwest of the city, you may catch sight of the eye-boggling Turning Torso, a brand-new apartment block that twists through 90 degrees from bottom to top. Inaugurated at the end of August 2005, it's now Sweden's tallest building at 190m high.
