Lonely Planet review for MacRitchie Reservoir

Bring lots of water and wear good walking shoes… this ain’t no ordinary hike in the park. In the middle of the 2000-hectare Central Catchment Nature Reserve is the MacRitchie Reservoir. The mirror-surfaced reservoir is surrounded by a 12km, five-hour, circular jungle trail. Though less popular, the six trails here are no less beautiful than the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve walks and provide more of a challenge. Pick up a map from the rangers’ office along Lornie Rd or at the start of the Pierce Track.

Not extraordinarily adventurous but enjoyable nevertheless!

    jopro recommends this,

Was here yesterday. LP states it is partly a manicured park and that's correct. In fact I felt that the 'manicure' was present throughout most of the walk, although some parts are clearly wilder than around the main entrance.

Among the negative things were joggers and school kids (week day), making you feel as in a generic city park, although not constantly. The trails weren't as difficult as I'd hoped for. I significant part of the trail in the South simply borders a golf course.

Positive: plenty of small life, monitor lizards (swimming or not), monkeys (I encountered them in the North near the Island Country Club and at the very end near the piers at the entrance - they seem to enjoy the exercise grounds). The area around the Treetop Walk is fantastic and peaceful. The military were doing navigation exercises but not cumbersome.

Tip: refill your water bottles at the Ranger Station!

Tip2: if you're doing the Nature Walk from the Singapore City Guide, watch out with transport to Le P'tit Breton: there is no longer a bus 162 stopping nearby.
