Lonely Planet review for Taj Mahal
The Taj can be accessed through the west, south and east gates, which all lead to an outer courtyard. The south gate is the main access and is easiest to reach from Taj Ganj, while the east gate generally has the shortest queues. The west gate gets very crowded with tour groups, but they don’t normally arrive until after 9am. There are separate queues for men and women. Prohibited items such as food, tobacco, matches, mobile phones and camera tripods can be left without charge in cloakrooms. Don’t forget to visit the cloakroom first to avoid queuing twice.

johnsmith009 recommends this,
Me and my wife had a wonderful trip to Taj Mahal recently(June, 2011) .The tour also had cities like Delhi and Jaipur as its part, where we were shown heritage places like the Red Fort, Qutub Minar and Panch Mahal...
Our Tour provider Indian Holiday Pvt Ltd made it all worthwile . Thanks to our friend Mary Smith who introduced us to their website, where we found the appropriate holiday for us .
Looking for more such trips to India ..

Audio the Taj
kanchana2011 recommends this,
I was really lucky to visit the Taj in July 2011 because they just launched a new audio tour guide called AudioCompass. I have visited many monuments in India before but this service was never available. I never wanted to hire tout guides. So I ended up not knowing much about India's heritage
But thanks to Audio Compass's amazing information in 5 international languages I now know everything about Agra and the Taj. I would recommend it to everyone. Reasonably priced at Rs 100/-Good for: Enjoying the views
Not good for: Eating a quiet meal

See it in the rain....
Eddie06 recommends this,
I visited first day of the monsoon and it was thrill. The crowd was small (especially for a Sunday), few foreigners and it was easy to be alone away from the laughing crowd huddling for shelter. Absolutely soaked but the Taj in the rain is a beautiful sight, subtle and subdued and strangely appropriate.
Good for: meeting other travellers
Not good for: crowds

Obviously a must see. New guided audio tour, worth doing...
ozed11 recommends this,
Normally I wouldn't write a review for something as obviously good as the Taj Mahal (seems like a moot venture to justify why people should go see one of the wonders of the world), but wanted to share with fellow travelers that there is actually a guided audio tour available. I had heard from friends that there wasn't a guided audio tour (which I prefer to do because its cheaper and usually better information / easier to understand), so I hired a guide for a few hundred rupees and did an hour long tour. While we were walking around I saw people with the audio guides, so after a pretty mediocre tour in not-so-clear English from my guide, I told my guide I wanted to learn more information and had him run outside the gate (with my license as a deposit) to get me one (it was 100 rups, btw).
I restarted my Taj tour and to no surprise had a much better experience. You can go at your own pace, the audio quality is good, and the content was really informative and easy to understand. Also, the audio tour basically informed me that half of what my tour guide said (legends about the black taj, diverting the river, etc) was just factually incorrect. When I went to returned the guide and got my license back, I asked them if they were new, and apparently they had just started this past week! And I guess they just launched at the Agra Fort as well, another sight in Agra 100% worth seeing.

Awesome Experience
shubhadeepb recommends this,
A recent visit to Agra for a Taj Mahal experience was awesome! A few travel tips though could’ve elevated it to an out-of-the-world experience.
Tip #1: Use the train service between Delhi – Agra.
Tip #2: Schedule to enjoy Taj at sunset & sunrise.
Tip #3: Schedule your Agra visit for a weekday (except Friday).
Tip #4: Allocate some non-guide time.Read the full post at http://shubhadeepb.blogspot.com/2010/12/visiting-taj-mahal-quick-tips.html.
Good for: architecture, what man can build, wonder of the world, things to do before you die
Not good for: crowds

go round the back!
heebee recommends this,
Head round the back and kick back on the platform between the Taj and the river. Great view, a lot quieter than the madness of the front entrance - one morning I had the whole place to myself and couldn't see another soul, a rare treat in India let alone at one of its major attractions!
