The rest of conservative Texas may not be sure about Austin, but the world is; with fewer developed tourist attractions and more green space than you'd expect, this town has real charm. And if you haven't heard something of the capital's music scene in recent years, you're just not paying attention.
Hosting the annual South by Southwest music industry love-in - as well as umpteen lesser known music fests - Austin has become known as the 'Live Music Capital of the World'. On any given night you can hear live rockabilly, punk, ska, country or jazz at local clubs.
