Lonely Planet review for Mùtiányù

Famed for its Ming-era guard towers and excellent views, the 3km-long section of wall at Mùtiányù, northeast of Běijīng in Huairou County, is largely a recently restored Ming dynasty structure that was built upon an earlier Northern Qi dynasty edifice. US President Bill Clinton came here (Reagan went to Bādálǐng), if that’s anything to go by. With 26 watchtowers, the wall is impressive and manageable, with most hawking reserved to the lower levels (hawkers go down to around Y15 for cotton ‘I climbed the Great Wall’ T-shirts) : the further you get away from Mùtiányù central the better. It’s actually possible to hike from Mùtiányù all the way west to Huánghuā and the front section of Jiànkòu.

How could you NOT climb the great wall?!?

    matpalm recommends this,

Our awesome driver, Mr Xu, took us out to the wall and picked this spot as one of the quieter areas. Man, I glad we didn't go to one of the crowded spot! An awesome, highly accessible, part of the wall where the climb is just challenging enough that you can feel like you've achieved something great without being completely knackered for the day. And though the crowds were at times a bit overwhelming from time to time the sea of people seemed to part and my wife and I felt like we had the wall to ourselves.
