Lonely Planet review for Twelve Apostles
The Twelve Apostles draw tens of thousands of visitors every year. Close to the Great Ocean Road, these lonely rocky stacks were formed some 20 million years ago, created as the sea gradually eroded the soft limestone cliffs between Port Campbell and Princetown. Timber boardwalks run around the cliff tops, providing viewing platforms and seats.
One of the Apostles toppled into the sea in July 2005 - bringing the number down to eight. In January 1990 a nearby formation called London Bridge - a natural arch linking the mainland to offshore rocks - also collapsed. Two tourists left stranded on the arch had to be rescued by helicopter.

Rocks in the sea, meh
markbroadhead does not recommend this,
It's a very long drive to get here from Melbourne. Unfortunately it is not that amazing, and neither, to be honest, is the Great Ocean Road. It is windy road along the coast. A few good views, but not the stuff of legend.

Great way to explore the coastline
niesha recommends this,
It's fun to explore this region and it's free! A great drive along the coast, combined with walking, sight-seeing and exploring. It can be windy - so you'll probably need some warmer layers just in case and there's there's always lots of people/tourists. Make sure you take some snacks, in case you get hungry along the way.

One of the best motorbike rides in Victoria
markba recommends this,
Travelling from Geelong to visit the Twelve Apostles is undoubtedly one of the single best motorbike riding experiences Victoria has to offer. The breathtaking coastal views and sweeping corners that make up this 200km ride is best enjoyed during off-peak seasons when the conditions are supremely dry.
If you're travelling from Melbourne the Great Ocean Road will be your best and most satisfying route after spending some time on the freeway to reach Geelong. Head inland via Colac for an incredibly scenic countryside journey back to town.
Good for: Adrenalin junkies, a day out
Not good for: inexperienced riders
