Welcome to Naruto
Naruto is a widespread city in the northeast corner of Shikoku. While there's not much of interest in the township itself, Naruto is known throughout Japan for whirlpools in the sea underneath Ōnaruto Bridge, the impressive structure that connects Shikoku with Awaji Island. The phenomena is best viewed as the tides change, either from a boat or from the observation platform under the bridge. Check www.uzusio.com for the best times to view them on a particular day.
On the Shikoku side of the bridge is Naruto-kōen and the fascinating Otsuka Museum of Art. Also within the city limits are the first two temples of the 88 Sacred Temples of Shikoku Pilgrimage.
