Corcoran School of the Arts & Design

Gallery in White House Area & Foggy Bottom

Opened in 1869, the Corcoran was DC's oldest art museum. It closed in 2014, giving the National Gallery of Art its genre-spanning collection and allowing George Washington University to take over the landmarked building and its art school. The historic beaux-arts building is undergoing an $80-million renovation and the first stage of this is due to open in late 2018; when the renovation is complete, half of the galleries on the 2nd floor will be used by the National Gallery of Art.
