Palais Faraj

A 19th-century palace turned luxe heritage hotel, the Faraj retains some beautiful original features (one suite occupies the old hammam). Classic rooms are just a tiny bit cramped, but the pool is large. Staff is suave, and as it's just outside a quiet medina wall, the atmosphere is calm and open – and it's a cinch to reach by taxi.

The hotel is home to a recommended restaurant, L'Amandier.
