The Collective Paper Factory

Originally a radio factory (paper came later), this five-story building in semi-industrial Long Island City now houses a whimsical gem of a hotel that's undergoing a complete revamp through 2021. There's a hint of sophistication in the industrial-chic rooms that boast a vintage aesthetic without sacrificing comfort, including modern beds, good showers and antique film props from the previous owner's personal collection.

The 12ft ceilings and large windows add to the spacious feel, and locally created artwork and old-fashioned furniture make each room unique. New public spaces include a a globally inspired comfort-food restaurant (Ama), a courtyard bar, a co-working space and classes ranging from yoga to ukulele instruction. The rooms will be done up in 2020.
