Pahoa feels like the funky love-child of a Wild West frontier town and a hippie commune. Its ramshackle main street, complete with covered wooden sidewalks and peeling paint, has an unkempt bohemian edge that has captured the soul of many a traveler. Since all roads lead to Pahoa (quite literally), you'll find all types here in the original, eclectic beating heart of Puna.
The main thoroughfare is easily missed if you're bombing down Hwy 130. Take Pahoa Village Rd that splits south from the traffic circle on the north end of town, and reconnects at the Hwy 130 and 132 intersection at the south. Don't miss it.
