This comprehensive half-day North Shore tour begins with a drive over the Ko'olau Mountains to the windward side of the island. Your first stop is the fabled Valley of the Temples to visit the picturesque Byodo Temple, located at the base of stunning lush green cliffs. Diamond HeadThis iconic Waikiki landmark was formed 300,000 years ago when the volcano erupted. As these materials settled, they cemented together into a rock called tuff, creating the crater. Your guide will explain the geologic and military history of the world famous Diamond Head Crater while you enjoy the view of surfers in the waves. Learn about some of the history of these beautiful homes surrounding this impressive landmark. (No strenuous summit hike.)Hanauma BayThis iconic bay is a highlight for many in Hawaii. Your guide will talk about the geologic formation of the bay. Your group will have an opportunity to take pictures of the bay and stroll the grassy park area at the top of Hanauma Bay.Halona BlowholeAt the Halona Blowhole (meaning peering place or place to lookout), water can shoot up to 30 feet into the air. The reason the water shoots into the air here is due to small caves along the coast with an opening at the top. During the winter we may view whales along the coast. When we drive the expensive road known has H3, you will be able to see if anyone is hiking this trail as we pass right by the giant cliffs of the Ko'olau mountains. These cliffs cannot be described but only witnessed by you. How amazing would it be if a Buddhist temple had these cliffs as a backdrop?That brings us to our next stop, at the Byodo-In Temple. The Byodo-In Temple brings the focus onto architectural design and themes of spiritual mindfulness and the esoteric. The Byodo-In Temple has been used in many TV and Blockbuster films and is located on the island of Oahu in Hawaii in the Valley of the Temples.How about a fun photo where it looks like you have an island hat? Please plan ahead so you are not late. Gunstock Ranch is located 2 miles North of the Polynesian Cultural Center, between the towns of Laie and Kahuku, Oahu. We are a 10-minute drive from Turtle Bay Resort. We recommend that you wear long pants and covered shoes for this ride. Cowboy boots are not required. Wear sunscreen and bring a bottle of water. Small cameras are welcome. For chilly days it is a good idea to bring a light sweater or jacket.
