Max & Jan

Top choice in Mouassine & Central Souqs

Brace yourself for the future of Marrakesh: Belgian-Swiss design duo Jan Pauwels and Maximilian Scharl have taken over multiple premises to create this giant temple to contemporary Moroccan design. One side is all about quirky jewellery, colour-pop ceramics, posters and cheeky slogan T-shirts, while the other features jazzy caftans, slouchy active-wear and outrageously embellished jackets that wouldn't look out of place on the catwalk.

Pass the camel graffiti, keep heading back and you'll find an artfully arranged collection of rugs and throws in a courtyard that leads up to a popular roof-terrace cafe. Max & Jan may have a global edge, but it's firmly rooted in Morocco: Max was born here, and Jan has lived in Morocco for 15 years. The products sold here are all locally made.
