Welcome to Spiekeroog
It’s the tranquillity of this rustic island that draws people – rolling dunes dominate the landscape of little Spiekeroog, with about two-thirds of its 18.25 sq km taken up by these sandy hills. Near the western end is the island's eponymous village. There are also plenty of places for swimming, but if you're looking to just hit the beach, another island might be a better bet: all that sand and all those dunes mean it can be a fair hike before you reach the water's edge – though you do have a 15km stretch of soft white sand to roam.
Spiekeroog is not only car-free but discourages bicycles, too.
