Marmorkirken

Consecrated in 1894, the enormous green-and-gold dome atop the rococo-style Marmorkirken (Marble Church, officially Frederikskirken, marmorkirken.dk; dome adult/child 50kr/free) dominates the city skyline. It was inspired by St Peter's in Rome and offers superb city views (dome visits on weekends at 1pm). Despite the name, it's not marble. The church was commissioned by Frederik V, with construction beginning in 1749. Funding troubles meant the church was left half-built for more than a century, but a wealthy benefactor finally saw the project to completion in 1894.
