It's not really on the way to or from anywhere else, so, as the locals like to say, 'You have to mean to visit Wimberley.' A popular weekend spot for Austinites, this artists' community gets absolutely jam-packed during summer weekends – especially on the first Saturday of each month from March to December, when local art galleries, shops and craftspeople set up booths for Wimberley Market Days. The event fills Lion's Field with a bustling collection of live music, food and more than 475 vendors.
Even on weekends when there's no market, there are plenty of shops to visit, stocked with antiques, gifts, and local arts and crafts. You can also taste olive oil in one of the state's few commercial olive orchards, eat expertly baked homemade pies or kick back at the creekside lodgings.
