You'll immediately feel welcome at this well-designed B&B in Papaikou, a short 7 miles north from Hilo. In the main house, three carpeted ground-floor rooms vary in size, but all are spacious, spotless and include A/C, private lanai, mini fridge and the gamut of kitchen appliances and face a lawn complete with a tiki kitchen, BBQ and hot tub.

Most memorable (albeit up two flights of stairs), the third-floor 'tower' room is playful, with panoramic views from a wraparound lanai (porch). A $15 continental breakfast can be booked directly via the website only. Check website for various discounts.
