Nestled in the verdant green of the Ladugårdsgärdet is one of the most forward-thinking museums in the city. Questions like should robots have rights? What will be the impact of AI on our lives? are the name of the game at Tekniska Museet or the Museum of Science and Technology.
The permanent installations are very entertaining and interactive, like the Play Beyond Play exhibition, which covers an entire floor with insights into the past, present and future of computer games (around one in four people in the world has played a game designed by Swedes!).
The HyperHuman installation explores the connection between our ideas of humanity and the frontiers of technology including Artificial Intelligence and genome editing.
The Teknorama is a vast room of kinetic experiments and stations designed to do things like test your balance, flexibility and strength. In one corner is a dark and genuinely scary mining exhibit. There’s also a model railroad, a survey of inventions by women, and a climate-change game. A major new attraction is Wisdom Stockholm, an incredible wooden building with domed auditorium, screening 360° IMAX films in 3D, which is also interactive.
It's all very nerdy and delightful and so should be a huge hit for children and teenagers especially, but really anyone with a deep curiosity about what the word "technical" entails should be very satisfied with an afternoon spent wandering its halls.
