Housed in a grand old train station, Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart (hamburgerbahnhof.de; adult/concession/under 18 €16/8/free) is one of Germany’s top spots for contemporary art. Its collection spans the full arc of post-1960s art movements – conceptual art, pop art, minimalism, Arte Povera, Fluxus – particularly from the US and Europe. It’s an engaging mix of the iconic and the unexpected.
Changing exhibits span the entire arc of post-1950 artistic movements, from conceptual art and pop art to minimal art and Fluxus. Seminal works by such major players as Andy Warhol, Cy Twombly, Joseph Beuys, Katharina Fritsch and Cindy Sherman are presented in changing configurations both in the main museum and in the adjacent 300m-long Rieckhallen.
