For fabulous views of the Alps and the Forggensee, take the Tegelbergbahn cable car (tegelbergbahn.de; adult one-way/return €20.50/31, child €8.50/13) to the top of the Tegelberg (1730m), a prime launching point for hang-gliders and parasailers. From here it’s a wonderful hike down to the castles (two to three hours; follow the signs to Königsschlösser) or further into the uninhabited Alps between here and Oberammergau. In winter the same mountain becomes the Tegelberg–Schwangau ski resort, with five easy slopes.
To get to the valley station, take RVO bus 73 or 78 (rvo-bus.de) from Füssen Bahnhof.
