Statens Museum for Kunst

Mostly known by its Danish acronym SMK, Statens Museum for Kunst (smk.dk/en/section/visit-smk; adult/child 130kr/free) is Denmark’s largest art museum, with more than 9000 paintings and sculptures in its collection. At the southern end of Østre Anlæg park, its grand Italian Renaissance revival building has been turned into a modern marvel through the attachment of a modern wing with a glass wall overlooking the park. This inside-outside architecture and extraordinarily rich collection, including works by Mantegna, Munch, Ancher, Dürer, Modigliani, Hammershoi and PS Krøyer, make it an especially good place to escape on a rainy day.
