Hawthorne Cottage

Newfoundland & Labrador

Capt Robert Bartlett made more than 20 Arctic expeditions, and in 1909 cleared a trail in the ice that enabled US commander Robert Peary to make his celebrated dash to the North Pole. Bartlett's old home is an ornate example of a wealthy Newfoundland mariner's mansion, and is today managed as a national historical site and museum.
