Spend the night in a luxury tent at Mount Rushmore
One of the main attractions that bring travellers to the Midwestern state of South Dakota is the dramatic heights of Mount Rushmore. But even if you’ve already seen the iconic sculpture, there’s a new way to experience the site – camping out in a luxury tent nearby.
Under Canvas, a luxury glamping company, has opened up its latest experience right by Mount Rushmore, so you can get up close and personal with the massive faces of presidents Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln and Roosevelt.
Guests will be able to learn about the history of the site, which was created between 1927 and 1941 by sculptor Gutzon Borglum and his son Lincoln. They will also have front row seats to the nightly lighting ceremony that brightens up the monument.
While relaxing in the shadow of history, the new luxurious camp site features amenities like chefs, warm bathtubs and a concierge service. The camp is located on the outskirts of an original gold mine settlement, but the current design is all about modern luxury. There are a number of tent options for travellers. There are large cabin-style safari tents that feature a king-size bed and a wood-burning stove, with access to a shared bathroom. There’s also the suite, which sleeps up to four and has a private bathroom and a private deck, and a deluxe tent that features a private en-suite bathroom, with a shower and also has a private deck.
Beyond Mount Rushmore, the spot is perfect for exploring South Dakota’s treasures, like Badlands National Park. Outdoorsy travellers can take part in hiking, climbing, biking, kayaking and more. Learn more about the camp here.
