One fifth of all slaves transported to the USA were brought in Bristol ships and by the 18th century the town was one of the country’s major commercial and shipbuilding ports. Today it's somewhere you drive through between Providence and Newport. It does have some interesting museums and Colt State Park, which is widely regarded as Rhode Island’s most scenic park.
