Welcome to Chapel Hill & Carrboro
While smaller and homier than Raleigh and Durham, its Triangle cohorts, Chapel Hill is a pretty college town that bubbles with life and energy. That’s largely due to the 30,000 students – and Tar Heels basketball team – of its University of North Carolina, founded in 1789 as the nation’s first state university. While commercialization has increasingly cost Chapel Hill’s short downtown strip some of its former charm, its near-neighbor Carrboro remains as appealing as ever. Between the two, they boast some great restaurants and bars, and continue to nurture a dynamic indie rock scene.
