The long, slightly steep, but relatively uncrowded beach with buff-colored sand is popular with families. Swimming is generally good here year-round, although there are occasionally strong currents in winter. Bodyboarding, surfing and windsurfing are also possible. When the tide is low, you can wade over to Mokuʻauia (Goat Island), a state bird sanctuary about 400yd offshore. It has a small sandy cove with good swimming and snorkeling.
Weekday visitors may find it hard to believe that the enormous, pothole-riddled parking lot fills up on weekends, but it does.
