Welcome to Battalgazi
You don't need to be an archaeology buff to enjoy the remains of Eski Malatya (Old Malatya), the walled town founded by the Romans 10km north of Malatya at Battalgazi. It had a typically turbulent history, being controlled at various times by (among others) Byzantines, Sassanids, Arabs and Danışmend emirs before the Seljuks arrived in 1105. Then came the Ottomans (1399), the armies of Tamerlane (1401), the Mamluks, Dülkadır emirs and the Ottomans again (1515).
As you come into the town you'll see some of the ruins of the Roman walls, which were finally completed in the 6th century with 95 towers.
