Welcome to Eksjö
The area south of today's town square was razed to the ground in a blaze in 1856, paving the way for the beautiful neoclassical buildings you see today, while the area to the north survived the fire. It's buildings date back to the 17th century and include Eksjö's two excellent museums. Both sides will have you swooning over the jumble of candy-coloured houses and flower-filled courtyards.
On weekends and in summer, when there always seems to be something going on, the little town is popular with day trippers. Outside the busy times, it's blissfully quiet and a lovely, central place to base yourself for a night or two if you have aspirations to explore Smâland.
