Although the sign says 'Armazém do São Thiago,' everyone calls this place Bar do Gomes. Regardless, this atmospheric drinking den with its old photographs and bottle-lined cabinets has long been a favorite meeting spot for ice-cold chope (draft beer) and such delicious petiscos (snacks) as bolinhos de abóbora con carne seca (pumpkin and jerked beef surrounded by deep-fried breading).
It's liveliest at weekends, when young and old pack the few stand-up tables and bar front, and spill out onto the sidewalk.
