Welcome to Troy & Around
Auchtembeddie, 5km south of Troy, is a choice spot for cavers, it's the home of the Coffee River Cave, known for some magnificent rock formations and a whole lotta bats. The area is totally undeveloped for tourism, but you can get in touch in advance with the Jamaican Caves Organisation to see if they might be able to suggest someone who can take you spelunking.
A dirt road leads 3km north from Troy to Tyre, hamlet ruins on the edge of the Cockpits. An overgrown, largely disused trail leads all the way to Windsor (about 21km); contact STEA to see if they can recommend a reliable guide. Don’t attempt this trek alone; it is easy to get lost and experienced backcountry hikers have almost died on this trail.
