Welcome to Greek Islands

Satisfy Your Appetite

On the islands, you'll often be fed like long-lost family from traditional dishes heaped with pride. Island hopping is a culinary adventure and a tour of regional cuisine. Each island's local cheese is unique, and its wild greens and honey distinct. Head to a harbour to watch the daily catch tumble from the fishermen's nets, and look for people collecting wild produce on the hillsides. On many islands, you'll encounter the Italian legacy of pasta with a Greek slant, like rich sauces with mussels steamed in ouzo. On others, the Ottoman past surfaces in spiced sweets and pastries.

Get Active

The islands sit like floating magnets for anyone who enjoys the great outdoors. Wander along cobbled Byzantine footpaths, hike into volcanoes, kayak with dolphins, watch for sea turtles and cycle through lush forests. The Greek islands are also an excellent place to try new pursuits, with some of the world’s top kitesurfing, diving and rock climbing locations. With wide, open skies and a vast and varied landscape that begs to be conquered, it's easy to understand how so many myths of gods and giants originated here.

Time Travel

Surround yourself with the ancient ruins of Delos or wander through the reconstructed Minoan palace of Knossos and you can almost sense the ancient Greeks moving alongside you. The spellbinding city of Akrotiri, dug out from beneath the ash of Santorini's massive volcanic eruption, and the medieval walled city of Rhodes let you step through a window into times past. Beyond these celebrated sites are the quieter ruins scattered on nearly every island, filled with mystery and often overgrown with wildflowers – from the enormous marble statues of Naxos to the colourful 2nd-century mosaics on Kos. Greek ruins are as impressive as they are numerous.

Experience Island Life

Sink your toes deep into the sand and listen to the warm Aegean lap the shore like you have nowhere else to be. This is island life. Soak up the majestic beauty of Santorini or indulge in the pulsing nightlife of Mykonos. Wander through lush wildflowers in spring or laze on isolated sandy coves in summer. Become acquainted with the melancholy throb of rembetika (blues songs) and the tang of homemade tzatziki. The days melt from one to the next, filled with miles of aquamarine coastline blessed with some of Europe’s cleanest beaches. Many travellers simply settle down and never go home.

Santorini Wine Tasting, Vineyard Small-Group Tour

Book your daytime or sunset tour and start your experience with a hotel and Airbnb pickup. Daytime Tour (available April to early November):Travel by a modern air-conditioned minivan to the first of the three traditional wineries and, on route, learn from your guide about wine production on Santorini and the varietals that you may try during the day.Producing some of the most distinctive wine in the Mediterranean, the island owes its success largely to aspa, a unique blend of volcanic soil that lends its wines a rich minerality and crisp flavor. Grapes are grown in the shape of a basket close to the ground, allowing much-needed moisture from the island’s minimal rainfall to be retained effectively. At each winery, enjoy a cellar tour with your guide to see how the winemaking process unfolds, from harvesting to maturing the wine. Plus, walk around a volcanic slope with vines to see the grapes first-hand, and sample glasses of Santorini wine galore – up to 12 glasses in total.Try popular varietals such as assyrtiko and vinsanto, and enjoy local delicacies such as cheese and tapas alongside wine-tastings.Sunset Tour (available May 15 to September 30): After visiting the Estate Argyros or Boutari Winery, continue with a wine-tasting session at the old family winery of Gavalas and from there to the renowned Venetsanos Winery in time for Santorini’s legendary sunset. Head to the open-air terrace and enjoy a cheese and tapas plate to complement your wines against a stunning backdrop of the caldera and Aegean, just as the sun sets over the sea. Plaka, Anafiotika, Hills of Athens Walking Tour with Picnic

Meet your expert guide near Athens’ Benaki Museum and set off a leisurely paced stroll through the streets of Plaka – the city’s Old Town. Sprawled over the side of Athens' Acropolis, this historical neighborhood comprises a maze of cobbled streets lined with Neoclassical architecture, Byzantine churches and busy independent shops. On the northernmost streets of Plaka is the area known as Anafiotika -- an idyllic cluster of whitewashed houses that are reminiscent of buildings in the Greek islands. Admire Anafiotika’s pretty Cycladic architecture, built by 19th-century workers who emigrated here from Anafi Island. It’s thought the workers were homesick for their native island life, so painted the buildings bright white to remind them of Anafi. While hearing tales of the area and its history from your guide, walk over to the Rock of Ares (Aereopagus) – just slightly further up the slopes of the Acropolis on Mars Hill. The colossal rock marks the spot that was once the supreme court of ancient Athens, and bygone kings are buried in tombs surrounding it. Continue to Philopappou Hill, passing Socrates’ Prison where the Classical Greek philosopher Socrates was imprisoned and sentenced to death on controversial charges. After a quick look at the fascinating landmark, stop at the peak of Philopappou Hill to enjoy breathtaking views over Athens’ bustling metropolis. Sit down with a glass of white wine and help yourself to a picnic of various Greek delicacies. After relaxing at this panoramic vantage point, head back into town with your guide, following the pretty UNESCO World Heritage-listed walkways down the hill. Pass the famous Philopappos Monument and then finish your tour back at the start point, near Benaki Museum.
