JW Marriott Tomorrow Square

Victor Sassoon probably would have traded in his old digs in a heartbeat if he could have stayed in the chairman’s suite here. Housed across the upper 24 floors of one of Shanghai’s most dramatic towers, the JW Marriott has marvellously appointed rooms with spectacular views, coffee-maker, and showers with hydraulic massage functions to soak away the stress.

Service and facilities are top class, with two pools (indoor and outdoor) and an excellent spa. Internet costs ¥120 a day for nonmembers (¥600 per week). Its library is in the Guinness World Records for the world's highest at 230.9m, but it's only accessible to executive-lounge members.
