Welcome to San Ignacio de Velasco
San Ignacio de Velasco is a thriving commercial center and the largest town on the mission circuit. There's a real buzz about the place, and it's worth planning your route to include an overnight stop here. The church here is a modern reconstruction. Attached to it is an incongruous 1950s tower, which is all that remains of a second church, an ugly building that was later knocked down and replaced with the replica that occupies the site today.
Several attractive, large wooden crosses (a trademark of Jesuit mission towns and villages) stand at intersections just off the plaza.
