Buena Vista is a nice little town two hours (103km) northwest of Santa Cruz, serving as an ideal staging point for trips into Parque Nacional Amboró’s forested lowland section. Though most foreigners prefer Samaipata for national-park exploration, Buena Vista has some of the best places to view wildlife, observe birds and see local traditions. The downside is a sweatier, more humid climate and significantly less choice on where to stay and eat.
