Stedelijk Museum

This fabulous museum houses the collection amassed by postwar curator Willem Sandberg. A rotating selection of highlights from its 90,000-strong collection of modern and contemporary visual art and design from 1870 to the present day features artists including Picasso, Matisse, Mondrian, Van Gogh, Rothko, Jeff Koons, Yves Klein, Lichtenstein and Yayoi Kusama. The free audioguide is fantastic; the museum also hosts excellent temporary exhibitions. AM Weissman's Dutch Renaissance–style main building dates from 1895; the 2012 extension is fittingly nicknamed "the Bathtub."
