An entrant in the travel section of an international photography competition will be given the opportunity to explore key US destinations in a drink brand’s “whiskey van” for two weeks.

Hochstadter’s Slow & Low Rock and Rye is sponsoring the travel category of lifestyle magazine Monster Children's 10th annual photo competition, with the other categories being music, action, lifestyle, student and "shot on mobile." The category is open to international entrants and the winner will receive a AUD $5000 ($3538) prize, but a US-based entrant will be offered the chance to work with the brand on a two-week contract position as its “Chief of Discovery.”

The person chosen will be flown to California to meet with the company's marketing team to plan out the journey, after which they will be responsible for showcasing the Slow & Low lifestyle ethos by taking a two-week trip to destinations along the west coast, including Arizona and New Mexico. They will travel in a 1978 Chevy G20 that’s been customized with a walnut bar, leather bench seating, orange tufted paneling and sound system, and will receive a stipend for the trip to be used on gas, food, accommodation and activities.

Throughout the trip, they’ll be tasked with capturing photo content for Slow & Low’s social channels and website. They'll also curate city guides for each destination they visit, including suggested activities, hotels, bar and restaurants, which will be hosted on a dedicated landing page on the company’s website. They won't be on their own as they'll be able to bring a friend or pet along for the journey. Following the two-week period, the Chief of Discovery will have the opportunity to work with Slow & Low on additional travel content projects throughout 2021.

The ideal candidate must be over the age of 21, have a valid driver’s license, have an appreciation for Slow & Low, be willing to travel, and have the ability to capture engaging content for social media. "Travel is a rewarding experience in and of itself, but this is a truly unique way to experience some of America’s beautiful locales and put their photography skills to the test,” says Campbell Milligan, Monster Children’s founder and creative director. Interested participants can enter through Monster Children’s website here and entries are due by 31 October.
