Fans of Mexican spice and breakfast foods will have something to celebrate if they take to the skies with United Airlines; a mile-high feast of breakfast tacos.

The new offering of egg and chicken chorizo tacos will be a breakfast option on longer flights starting 1 May. It will be served with two types of cheese, chipotle and salsa, all on corn and flour tortillas and was inspired by street food and the rise of food trucks around the USA.
While the mix of tacos and airline food may not sound all that tempting, it’s been in development for more than a year now as United attempted to create an authentic-tasting dish. In their mission, they recruited the help of 800 flight attendants and customers to sample all kinds of recipe variations.

To wash down your tacos - or perhaps better to sample separately - the airline is also adding two new craft beers to the drinks menu; a Citradelic Tangerine IPA from Colorado’s New Belgium Brewing Company and Lagunitas Sumpin' Easy Ale. It will also be stocking Stella Artois, the first airline to do so.
Or if you want to feel like you’re truly on holiday, they’ve added a signature cocktail to their offerings, an Old Fashioned made with whiskey, bitters and orange rind. It will be available for free to premium passengers but even economy passengers have the option of purchasing it, helping make your flight time pass just a bit easier.
United isn’t the only airline trying to make mile-high dining a bit more pleasant. Virgin Atlantic announced they’re bringing a high tea to the skies on their UK flights and even recruited the help of a celebrity chef to perfect the quintessentially British treat. Meanwhile, Lufthansa is introducing a la carte menu options for intercontinental passengers this summer in the effort to tempt lovers of fine-dining.
